How to cut between camera angles live on iPhone

In Live Studio you are the director. You record all takes first, each one while the earlier ones play back. Then you play the song in the Live Studio multiviewer and tap a camera to put it on air; the music keeps running with every layer in the mix, only the picture changes. Each cut lands on the timeline, where you can move it, delete it or turn it into a crossfade.

You need: Musaic on an iPhone or iPad, and headphones for the recording. Live Studio is free.

Steps

  1. Create a Live Studio project

    Start a new project, tap the Live Studio card ("Cut between takes live.") and pick 9:16 or 16:9.

  2. Record every angle

    Tap Record and choose Record video + audio. For the next angle, tap Record again: the earlier takes play back while you record. A second position, a close-up, another instrument: each take is one camera, up to 10.

  3. Open the multiviewer

    Open Live Studio. It shows a program monitor with an ON AIR badge, the transport, a row with your cuts and one tile per camera.

  4. Play and tap to cut

    Press play, then tap a camera tile to cut to it. The tile that is on air shows LIVE. The song never stops, only the picture changes.

  5. Refine the cuts

    Every cut is a marker. Tap one to choose Cut or Crossfade, set the length of the crossfade, or Delete it. Long-press a marker and drag it to move the cut.

  • What do I hear?

    All takes together. Live Studio switches the picture only; the sound is the mix of every layer.

  • Can I redo the cuts?

    Yes. Play again and cut again, or change single markers on the timeline.

  • Live Studio or Mosaic?

    Mosaic shows every take at once, side by side. Live Studio shows one take at a time and switches between them, like a live TV edit.
