How to appear twice in the same video on iPhone

Twin puts you into the same shot twice. You record a take, then a second take from exactly the same camera position; Musaic cuts you out of the second take and lays you over the first picture. The cut-out works with person detection, with Person + gear so an instrument in your hands stays, with a green screen, or by hand. Twin is marked Beta in the app.

You need: A camera that does not move between takes: a tripod, or the phone leaning against something solid. Twin is free.

Steps

  1. Create a Twin project

    Start a new project and tap the Twin card ("Appear multiple times in one frame."). It carries a BETA badge.

  2. Fix the camera and record the first take

    Put the phone on a tripod. Tap Record and perform on one side of the frame.

  3. Record the second take

    Tap Record again and perform on the other side while the first take plays back. If the camera moves during a take, the recorder warns you.

  4. Choose how to cut out

    Open Edit Video on the second layer and the Cutout tab. Pick Person, Person + gear, Green screen or Manual.

  5. Place each copy

    In the Adjust tab, Place switches between Full and Custom. Tap Adjust and drag or pinch the copy into place, then Done. Opacity makes a copy see-through.

The four ways to cut out

  • Person

    People only. A guitar in your hands stays behind.

  • Person + gear

    Keeps what the person holds: guitar, mic, bow.

  • Green screen

    A real chroma key for a coloured backdrop. The cleanest edge, even around a mic stand.

  • Manual

    Tap points to draw the shape yourself, add or erase areas, and fix what the automatic cut-out missed.

Good to know

  • Why a fixed camera?

    The two takes lie on top of each other. If the camera moves, the background of the second take no longer matches the first, and the edge of the cut-out shows.

  • More than two of you?

    Yes. A Twin project takes up to 10 layers, like the other modes.

  • What does Beta mean here?

    Everyone gets Twin. It is younger than the other modes, so an edge can need a touch-up with Manual.
