Musaic vs Voloco: record music with video and audio effects on iPhone
Both apps record music on your phone with video and put effects on the sound. Voloco is a vocal app: it records one camera take of your voice, with auto-tune and effects you hear live while you sing. Musaic records a song in layers: up to 10 camera takes in one video, voice and instruments, each with its own reverb, EQ and compression added after the take. Want auto-tune on one vocal over a beat? Take Voloco. Want the whole band in the picture? Take Musaic.

Many camera takes in one video
Mosaic puts every take on screen at once. Live Studio shows one take at a time and you cut between them. Twin puts you twice into the same shot.
-
Voice and instruments
Film your guitar or piano on its own layer, or play the built-in instruments. Every layer keeps its own sound and its own pane.
-
Effects on every layer, free
Reverb, echo, a three-band EQ, compressor, warmth and 12 voice styles, with every control open in the free version. How it works
-
Ten layers without a subscription
The free version records up to 10 layers with no time limit. Musaic Pro adds lyrics, chord detection, harmonies and Audio Lab, and removes the watermark.
Voloco applies its effects while you sing, so you hear the auto-tune or the reverb in your headphones during the take. It has pitch correction, vocoders and harmony presets that Musaic does not have, a library of free beats, and it takes the voice out of a finished song. It runs on Android, speaks 26 languages, and has been on the App Store since 2015 with about 87,000 ratings in the US. For one vocal take over a beat, it is the stronger app.
Every take stays raw. You can change the reverb of the second voice after you recorded the fifth, and nothing you recorded is ever baked in. The cost is that you do not hear the effect on your own voice while you sing.
-
Is Musaic a good alternative to Voloco?
It depends on what the video should show. If you want several camera takes in one video, for example your voice, a guitar and a harmony side by side, Musaic is built for that: up to 10 layers in the free version, each with its own reverb, EQ and compression. If you want auto-tune and to hear the effect in your headphones while you sing one take over a beat, Voloco is the better fit.
-
Can I hear the effects while I record in Musaic?
No. Musaic adds the effects to each layer after the take. While you record, you hear the earlier layers in your headphones, and the effects on the new take come afterwards. The raw take is kept, and you can change the effects at any time. Voloco applies its effects live, so you hear them while you sing.
-
Does Musaic have auto-tune?
Not in the current version. Musaic has reverb, echo, EQ, compressor, warmth, a doubler and 12 voice styles on every layer, and Musaic Pro adds harmonies in the key of the song. For pitch correction and auto-tune effects, Voloco is the app to use.
-
Can I record instruments as well as vocals?
In Musaic, yes. Every layer can be a voice or an instrument filmed with the camera, and Musaic has built-in instruments such as keys, bass, drums, strings and synth, free for everyone. Voloco's projects are made of vocal tracks; instruments are not advertised.
-
How much does Musaic cost compared to Voloco?
Musaic is free, and Musaic Pro costs $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year in the US. Voloco is free, and its subscriptions cost $9.99 to $11.99 a month or $49.99 to $59.99 a year. Prices from the US App Store on 26 October 2026, where Voloco listed several prices for the same plan.
Musaic - Recording Studio is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Musaic Pro adds lyrics, chord detection, harmonies and Audio Lab, and removes the watermark.
